Putting God to Work
“It was only my limited view of how God works that had caused me to think that he was not part of wherever I happened to be at the moment or that I had to leave my present environment in order to more effectively serve Him.” So starts the book Putting God to Work by Scott N. MacLellan.
How many of us have dreamed about leaving our current assignment to “serve God better” than where we currently are? I believe this is in direct opposition to how God desires to work through us right where we are RIGHT NOW.
When the enemy sees us longing to serve God with a deeper level of commitment and a longing to see more fruit in our life perhaps one of his greatest ploys is to get us to think that we can’t do that right where we are at this time. Somehow we miss the fact that we may be on assignment in the very place we find ourselves.
One reason I love the 10 Most Wanted / Top 10 cards we use in CBMC is that it awakens me to the Holy Spirit’s work in the lives of the people in my immediate sphere of influence. I can begin to see the opportunity to shine God’s love and light in the lives of people around me. As the Spirit of God works through me to begin to influence change through my interactions of truth and love, people begin to move one step closer to seeing Jesus Christ for who He really is! One step closer… as we taught people over the years.
If I have ever sensed the urgency to bring the image of God and His love through our lives into the very places we spend our time each weekday it is now. Our culture is almost completely upside down in what it values and protects. Reading God’s Word and prayer are practices that we have completely banned in our government sponsored schools. We’ve even carried the thinking of “separation of church and state” into the marketplace. Polling average workers in a publicly owned company finds that many believe that faith should be kept out of the workplace!
Now is the time to pray and seek God’s face in understanding the opportunity to be His ambassadors right where we are. Not by being offensive and obstructionist, but by being loving and caring with those we have interaction with. Today – start asking God to open your eyes to the things He is doing in the lives of your coworkers, employer, employee, vendor, business partner, etc.
He is faithful to show you where He desires to use you RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE – RIGHT NOW!
There’s no more exciting way to live! Who needs halftime?? It’s game on!
